Join us at 6pm on 30th July for the premiere of a short film about a journey from Shropshire to the Swiss Alps - in search of a glacier from a travel poster painted in the 1960s. The adventurers resist the urge to google where it is and instead set off armed with a postcard of it and no real idea where to go, to see where they end up.
As well as the film premiere, we'll enjoy music and visuals specially created for the event giving you time to enjoy a drink and a chat.
There will be also be a short talk from the filmmaker Chris Snow and a screening in Gather Upstairs about the power, lure and romanticism of the travel poster and how it inspired him to follow his nose.
Chris Snow
Chris Snow is an artist, musician and educator based near Ludlow and originally hailing from Margate. Chris's multi-disciplinary practice is driven by the tactile qualities of 1950s printing techniques, from a geography or science textbook diagram to technical manuals and maps. Fascinated by architecture, the spaces between structures and the spaces that connect us, he looks to environments that bring people together and also, that bring a place to life. Through a series of collage, digital image manipulation and occasionally video, Chris seeks out the spatial patterns and paths that we collectively follow, experiencing the same environments one generation after another, within radically differing social contexts.
